Surabhi-2013, the Extension Training programme of 2009 admission B.Tech students held at Wayanad

           College of Dairy Science and Technology, Mannuthy in association with  Department of Dairy Development organized a seven day Extension Training programme from 07.01.2013 to 13.01.2013 for the final year B.Tech students (2009 Admission). This year, the training programme was arranged in the dairy friendly district of Wayanad. Mr. G.R. Jayadevan, Academic Consultant, Dept. of Dairy Business Management was the Training Coordinator and Ms. Fincy Jose, Teaching Assistant was the Asst. Training Coordinator.
                  Smt. A. Devaki, Vice-President, Wayanad District Panchayath inaugurated the programme on 07.01.2013 at 10.00 a.m. The seven day camp covering the entire gamut of dairy/livestock extension activities proved an effective tool for training the budding dairy professionals in dairy production/procurement and extension. The trainees performed a farmers’ survey and presented the research output before an expert team chaired by Dr. Ramkumar, Director of Entrepreneurship KVASU. The trainee group visited several farmers’ houses, fodder plots, dairy farms, milk co-operatives etc. in Wayanad district. A single day was set apart for studying milk quality in the farm to dairy plant chain in milk procurement and the trainees could also assess various critical points for milk quality deterioration in the chain. During the training, they visited the ‘Wayanad milk’ dairy plant run by Sultan Bathery Milk Co-operative, Kalpetta Milma dairy, Ambalavayal AMCO Cattle feed plant, Mananthavady Radio ‘Mattoli’ Community FM Radio station, Automatic Milk Collection Stations and Bulk Milk Coolers of various dairy co-operatives, several organized dairy farms etc. in Wayanad district. The students were also exposed to the day to day activities of some Self Help Groups (SHGs), Joint Liability Groups (JLGs) and Students’ Dairy Clubs functioning in the district. The trainee group in association with Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Ambalavayal organized a milk product preparation class on 13th January for women members of a SHG in the KVK Campus.
                Valedictory function held on 13.01.2013 was inaugurated by Sri. P.T. Gopalakurup, Chairman - Malabar Milma & KCMMF. Prof. (Dr.) P. I. Geevarghese, HOD - Dairy Chemistry welcomed the gathering and Sri. Jose Immanuel, Dy. Director – Dairy Development, Wayanad offered Key Note Address in the function. Dean, Prof. (Dr.) R. Rajendrakumar addressed the gathering. Dr. P. Sudheer Babu, HOD - Dairy Engineering and Sri. M. Prakash, Asst. Director - Dairy Development, Wayanad offered felicitations in the valedictory function.
