25An International conference on developing and embedding a problem based learning approach in Veterinary education will be held at Flora Airport Hotel, Nedumbassery , Kochi on 26th and 27th April,2013. It will be jointly organised by the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University and the University of Edinburgh as part of the project on Knowledge, Economy, Partnership of 2011 of British Council, India. As a part of the project, three workshops on Animal welfare sciences, Production animal health and welfare and Companion animal welfare and clinical education were organised for the faculty of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences, University during 2012-13. Around 40 delegates from outside the state comprising of Vice Chancellors and Deans of the various Veterinary Universities in the country will attend the conference. As a part of the collaborative programme with the University of Edinburgh, KVASU will act as a facilitator for implementing problem based learning in the country which will be one of the initialventures in this sector..
Dr B. Madhusudhana Kurup, Hon. Vice Chancellor, Kerala Fisheries and Ocean studies University will be the Chief Guest during the function. Dr B Ashok, Hon. Vice Chancellor of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University will deliver the keynote address. There will be signing of Memorandum of Understanding between the KVASU and UoE on this occasion and discussion on UK India education and research initiative (UKIERI) –a project between the Universities of India and the United Kingdom. Professor Natalie Waran ,Director of Jeanne Marching International Centre for Animal Welfare Education at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary studies of University of Edinburgh is the project coordinator. Dr.Heather Bacon, Veterinary Welfare Education and Outreach Manager, Jeanne Marchig International Centre for Animal Welfare education), Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, the University of Edinburgh and Ms. Kharishma Captain of British Council will also participate in the conference.
