Farm Day celebrations held @CVAS, Pookode

                                Farm Day celebrations of Instructional Farm of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode, Wayanad was held at CVAS, Pookode on 30th April 2013. Shri. K.V.Shashi, President, Wayanad Zilla Panchayath inaugurated the celebrations. Vythiri Grama Panchayath President, Shri. P.Gagarin presided over the function. Vice Chancellor KVASU Dr. B.Ashok, I.A.S. delivered the key-note address and honored Shri. K.Hashiq, the winner of the Karshakajyothi award (worth 2 lakhs and a foreign trip to New Zealand) jointly instituted by Gandhi Peace Foundation and the State Govt and hailing from Pozhuthana Panchayath of Wayanad.
                                 A pre-workshop publication on “Value addition strategies for the Sustainable Conservation of Native Cattle Varieties of Kerala” was released during the function by Dr. K.P.Sreekumar, Registrar, KVASU. Various welfare schemes for farmers viz., Aishwarya poultry, Muyal gramam and Veettiloradu were also inaugurated by the Registrar. Launching of Vechur Arka, a value added product from Vechur cattle urine, scientifically proven as a bio-enhancer for anti-cancer drugs was done by Dr. S. Ramkumar, Director of Entrepreneurship along with distribution of merit certificates for the student leaders of ‘Earn While You Learn’ programme. Dr. Joseph Mathew, Professor & Head, IF, presented the annual report and Shri. K.K.Gangadharan, Senior Farm Supervisor proposed vote of thanks. An exhibition on various farm machinery, innovative animal and poultry cages, value added farm produce and a Farmer’s Meet were held as part of farmer’s day celebrations.
                                  A one-day workshop on “Value addition strategies for the Sustainable Conservation of Native Cattle Varieties of Kerala” was organized for the farmers who are rearing native cattle. It was led by Dr. Y.V.Krishnamoorthy, Project leader of ‘Kamadugha’ project on conservation of native cattle varieties at Shri RamchandrapuriMath, Shimoga, Karnataka and Dr. Bindya Liz Abraham. Talk on ‘Technology-driven value addition of native cattle urine and dung’ was given by Shri. M.K. Janardhan, Managing Director, Japro group of Companies, Mumbai.
