06Zoonosis Day is observed on July 6 of every year to create awareness among people on diseases that are transmitted from animals to human beings. The Department of Veterinary Public health organized a workshop, quiz competition and poster competition on the occasion of World Zoonoses Day. Zoonoses day stressed the concept of One health. One Health is the integrative effort of multiple disciplines working locally, nationally, and globally to attain optimal health for people, animals and the environment. Various zilla/ gram and block panchayat presidents participated the workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by Shri. K. V. Sasi, who stressed the need to combat zoonoses in a holistic manner. The valedictory program was inaugurated by Dean, Dr. K. Ramachandran, who spoke about the importance of emerging zoonoses and its control in Wayanad district especially due to large inflow of tourist from various states and countries and the vast resource of wildlife in the district. NRHM District program manager, Dr. Bejoy during the valedictory address explained the various zoonotic diseases which are transferred from animal to man and vice-versa and suggested that a collaborative effort from several departments through One Health concept will help to provide remedy to the emerging disease problems. The felicitations were given by Shri. Gagarin, President, Vythiri gram panchayat, Shri. M. A. Joseph, President, Thariode gram panchayat and Shri. Nasar, President, Kalpetta Block panchayat. The organizing committee presented VPH award to Karthika S for securing highest marks in VPE I. The booklet on Food safety and zoonosis was released by Shri Nasar.
The technical session of the workshop were handled by Dr. Jayakrishnan T, Assistant Professor, Calicut medical college and Dr. Vinod VK, Asst. Prof, COVAS, Pookode. Poster competition for students of COVAS, Pookode and Quiz competition for higher secondary students were simultaneously held. The first prize for quiz competition was awarded to Akshay Anand and Gayathri from De Paul public school, Kalpetta. The first prize poster- Research session was won by Sreenish Krishnan, Aswathy P and Surya Narayanan Naick and General session was won by Raghunatha Reddy and Reem Rasheed. Dean, COVAS, Pookode and various panchayat presidents distributed the certificates and prizes. Dr. Vinod VK, Co-convener welcomed the gathering and Dr. Prejit, Asst. Prof. delivered the vote of thanks.

RECOMMENDATIONS
• Approach for one health should be made considering a local, regional and national requirements.
• Health education of the public holds the key for control of zoonotic diseases
• Integrate national policy on zoonoses control at national level incorporating the one health concept
• Develop and promote innovative strategies for zoonotic disease control and management
• Ensure sustainability of control programs to prevent future occurrence
• Sharing of Knowledge and competence in various aspects of zoonoses control
• All the stake holders need to be trained about the emerging zoonotic diseases
• Develop a common platform of medical, environmental health and veterinary professional for better control of zoonotic diseases
• To establish a common center at northern Kerala to regularly conduct surveillance and epidemiology of zoonotic disease exclusively
• Follow strict directions from WHO, FAO, OIE and Codex Alimentarius Commission wherever applicable
• Establishment of accredited disease diagnosis and quality control laboratory in Wayanad district
• To propagate the concept of One Health via courses/trainings etc
