WAYANAD ONE HEALTH DECLARATION
The One Health Initiative is a global movement dedicated to improving the lives of all species – human, animal and environment- through the integration of human medicine, veterinary medicine and environmental science. One Health is not a new idea or principle but it is simply recognition of the need of promoting working together culture in a sustainable way particularly in resource-constraint countries to address health risks at the human-animal interface.
One Health concept is based on the understanding that the health of the humans, animals and the environment is inextricably linked, and that promoting the well being of all species can only be achieved through a holistic multidisciplinary approach at the human-animal-ecosystems interface. It recognizes that we cannot have a healthy human population unless our domestic farm animals, our agricultural fields and the broader ecosystem are also healthy. Fundamental to One Health thinking is that inter-disciplinary research and development should be implemented; undertaken by health, veterinary and environmental professionals pooling their insights, knowledge and expertise.
Considering all these and realizing the significance of One Health concept for complete health care, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) decided to launch a course on One Health.
