03 Poultry sector in the state will witness spectacular growth in the coming years; Says Hon’ble Minister for Finance, Government of Kerala Sri. K.M.Mani. Minister made this statement during the inaugural session of Farmers meet and Farmer Scientist interaction held at Marine Drive, Kochi in connection with the National Poultry Expo on 2nd March 2014. Kerala State Poultry Development Corporation and Directorate of Entrepreneurship of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University jointly organised the Farmer Scientist interaction and Farmers meet at Kochi.Government will make all efforts to solve the grievances of the poultry farmers in the state. Rearing of chicks is not a manufacturing process. So taxation of chicks needs to be revamped. Government will call for the meeting of the Poultry farmers association to discuss these issues. Rural poultry production at the homestead and poultry farming will be viewed separately. Measures should be taken to increase the productivity from poultry to meet the increasing requirement of poultry meat and eggs in the State. Scientists need to devise appropriate technologies through research to strengthen poultry sector in the State. Government allocated nearly 12 Crore Rupees in the budget 2014-15 to popularise poultry production in the State; Minister added.
Dr.B.Ashok IAS Vice Chancellor of KVASU delivered the keynote address. Vice Chancellor suggested that separate legislation is required for incorporating poultry as part of agricultural sector. This sector need support price and tax benefits. KVASU is trying to strengthen poultry education and industry through establishing separate Poultry Science faculty in the State. University will soon launch a three year degree programme on Poultry Production and Business Management to cater the requirement of the industry.Chairman of KSPDC Sri. Padmakumar presided over the function. Ernakulum District Co-operative Bank President Sri. V.J.Poulose and ADM Sri. Ramachandran offered felicitations. Managing Director of KSPDC Dr.Noushadali welcomed the delegates. Dr.Noushadali, Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan, Dr.B.Ajith Babu, Dr.Shine kumar, Dr.Jalaludheen (AHD), Dr.P.Gireesh Kumar and Dr.Binoj Chacko interacted with farmers. Around 200 farmers participated in the Farmers meet. Moreover Poultry farmers interacted with the Finance Minister on their contemporary issues. Earlier Minister and Vice Chancellor visited the pavilion of KVASU and lauded the efforts of University in technology transfer efforts. University recently launched Anaswara Poultry project to popularise quail production in the homesteads. KVASU's Anaswara Poultry Project designed by Dr.B.Ajith Babu for small holder quail rearing attracts lot of public and entrepreneurs in the exhibtion.
