02One day seminar on Prospects of Homeopathy in Veterinary Practice for assuring food security was conducted today at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Pookode. The programme was inaugurated by Sri C.P.John, Member of Kerala State Planning Board. Inhis keynote address Sri C.P.John stressed on the need for a holistic approach of various systems of medicine for ensuring health in man, animals and plants. He also said that homeopathy can be an answer to the growing concern among consumers about antibiotic and pesticide residues in foods of animal and plant origin. This system which is being used extensively in the UK and Europe especially in Animal Agriculture derive most of its medicines from plant extracts of India, particularly the Western Ghat region. He urged the practitioners to review the prospects of developing homeo industry in Kerala which has a rich reservoir of medicinal plants.Dr K.P. Sreekumar, Registrar, KVASU, Dr M R Saseendranath, Director of Academics, Dr S Ramkumar, Director of Entrepreneurship, Dr Ravi M Nair Former advisor (Homeopathy) and Dr K P G NairGovt of India spoke on the occasion. The scientific session that followed had papers presented by Dr K.V. Athman (Retd Associate Director of Research, KAU), Dr P.K. Naveen, Dr P Ramankutty (Retd Joint Directors, AHD), DrSreekala Sreekumar, Dr K R Janardhanan Nair and Dr S Swaminarayan. The recommendations that emerged from the seminar were presented to the University.
