01The Certificate in Laboratory Animal Medicine is designed to provide continuing education and applied training for licensed veterinarians working in the field of Laboratory Animal Medicine. The Certificate is offered by the University of Guelph and Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU).
One online “Theory” course and three applied courses, consisting of one-week placements at regional training centres, must be completed to obtain the certificate.
The one-week placements are located at regional biomedical training centres with AAALAC accreditation. Participants will spend time with professional staff in research animal facilities, observe practices related to the discipline, and learn skills and techniques that will build on your current knowledge of veterinary medicine. The applied placements should be completed within two years of enrolment.
Course Instructor:Dr. Patricia Turner, Professor in the Department of Pathobiology and Program Leader for graduate studies in Laboratory Animal Science at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph, has professional experience in mixed animal practice, and in academic and industrial settings within Canada as a laboratory animal veterinarian/pathologist, scientist, and administrator. She is also a Diplomate of the American College of Laboratory Animal Medicine and the American Board of Toxicology.
Schedule of Offerings: The nine-week Introduction to Lab Animal Medicine – Theory course is offered three times each year starting in February, May and October. The Applied Lab Animal Medicine I, II and III courses are open entry; participants may register upon completion of the Introduction to Lab Animal Medicine – Theory course in consultation with the Program Coordinator.

Course Cancellation:A refund, less a $125.00 administration fee will be issued provided Open Learning and Educational Support receives written notification of withdrawal at least seven (7) calendar days prior to the start date of a module.
