01The Rs 100 Crore special grant awarded to the newly organized Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is as a onetime special grant for strategic development of agriculture research awarded to a University for its strength in cutting edge development research potential through its research and development proposal submitted to govt. of India. This grant is to be used for developing eight new research schools in the Veterinary College Mannuthy, Veterinary College Pookot and Dairy Science College Mannuthy. These schools of research will offer new innovative post graduate and research courses in their fields of expertise. The main schools proposed are the school of Animal Production& Biotechnology, Bio- energy and farm waste management, Zoonoses and Public Health, Pathobiological sciences and Ethno pharmacology, New media and research, Avian sciences and instrumentation engineering. The new research schools will offer Master of Science programmes available for general science and technology graduates in applied biochemistry, Quality management in dairy processing, and diploma in food processing, Public health management, infectious diseases, ethno veterinary medicine, Pharmacological IPR, Applied animal science, poultry science, veterinary laboratory techniques, and veterinary anesthesiology. All school proposals were drawn up by faculty of the Veterinary and Dairy Science Colleges in Mannuthy and Pookot.
Apart from the 17 crores to be spent on the schools, Rs 60 crores will be spent on infrastructure development of the 55 year old Mannuthy Veterinary and Dairy science college campus. Overall 72 crores shall be spent in infrastructure and 28 crores in state of the art diagnostic equipments etc. With the development of new teaching and research facility the University will be in the frontier of research and hopes to enroll about 2000 students in new diploma, graduate and post graduate courses. Apart from this the University incorporated on 14th June 2010 has also bagged Rs 45 Crores from NABARD RIDF for its other projects and sports infrastructure development. The University newly created out of the Kerala Agricultural University has been successful for funding to the tune of Rs 165 crores to be spent in the next three to four years.
