05 Kerala Veterinary and animal Sciences University is implementing a unique selection process for recruiting the faculty members. University called for 115 posts of assistant Professors in various disciplines during June 2014. As per UGC guide lines while selecting the faculty members for the universities, their teaching skills should evaluated in addition to their academic and research capabilities. KVASU decided to implement this novel mode in the ensuing recruitment process foe Assistant Professor which Commenced from 3rd Dec 2014.As part of the same faculty, students and non-teaching staff who were selected randomly to assess the teaching skill ability of the candidates. The team includes 10 under graduate students, five faculty members and 5 non-teaching staff who were randomly selected. Each candidate will be given maximum 8 minutes of oral presentation with power point presentations. Single page write-up of the topic will be distributed among the evaluators before starting the presentation. Average scores will be submitted to the interview board for further evaluation. Teaching skill assessment is for 10 marks. This evaluation will be conducted in the presence of Interview board. They include three experts from outside the university, dean of the faculty, head of the department, Governors nominee with vice chancellor as the chairman.
This is the unique model for teaching evaluation. An era where scarcity of good quality teachers exists across the globe this mode can be very effectively used for selecting teachers in the country. Moreover this is the first venture wherein students are evaluating their future teachers for assessing their teaching skills.
