The 15th meeting of the Management Council of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University held on 22nd December 2014 at Headquarters, Pookode passed a resolution to confer honorary doctorate degrees to Dr.P.K.Warrier, Managing Trustee, Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal and Dr.Amrita Patel. Former Chairman, National Dairy Development Board upon confirmation from the Chancellor.
Padmabhushan Dr.P.K.Warrier, a doyen among the Ayurveda fraternity of today represents everything that is authentic and pristine in Ayurveda.He did a pioneering role in adding value to the traditional practices of Ayurveda by making significant contributions to the research and innovations and in taking this holistic science of health care to distant shores of the World. With the initiative of Dr.P.K.Warrier Kerala Veterinary ad Animal Sciences University launched a course on Post graduate diploma in Ethno pharmacology under technology enabled mode with the joint collaboration from Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala and Ayurveda College. Dr.Warrier is recognized as a physician par excellence. Taking in to account the vast contributions of Dr.Warrier KVASU decided to confer honorary doctorate to him. Told Vice Chancellor Dr.B.Ashok.
Dr.Amrita Patel, former Chairman of National Dairy Development Board was responsible for implementing the unique National Dairy Programme namely Operation Flood aimed at rural development in the country. The programme had helped to promote, finance and deliver variety of supporting services to a National co-operative dairy structure which includes more than 15 million members from 1.5 lakh village Dairy co-operatives affiliated to 183 districts coming under 22 State co-operative federations. With the efforts of Late Dr. Verghese Kurien and Dr.Amrita Patel India could achieve largest milk producing country in the World. Dr.Patel has been conferred the Padma Bhushan and numerous other awards and honorary degrees including Dr.Norman Borlaug Award and Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar. Dr.Amrita Patel has been selected for honorary doctorate degree taking in to account Dr.Patel’s contribution in the Dairy Sector of the country.After getting Chancellor’s approval, the Honorary doctorates will be conferred to Dr.P.K.Warrier and Dr.Amrita Patel during the first convocation ceremony of the university which will be held during the first week of March 2015; University sources added.
