01 The documentary on ”Precision farming-Path to prosperity produced by Dr.Deepa Ananth, Asst Professor, Directorate of Entrepreneurship, KVASU Mannuthy campus has won FAO's third prize in the Feed and Feeding for Farmers (3F) Video Competition for young researchers from developing countries. The competition was focused on identification of Smallholder farmers’ problem, how it is being addressed through technological interventions that have potential for replication and up scaling.
This documentary ”Precision farming-Path to prosperity “was made as part of the Project entitled “Equipping livestock based commodity interest group for sustained livestock production” of the Directorate of Entrepreneurship. The documentary depicts the scientific interventions made on dairy production among the commodity interest group of Nedunkandam Block of Idukki District. This included clean milk production, effective waste management, precision feeding and innovative marketing. The precision feeding was introduced by bringing awareness to farmers about the animal body weight measurements and body condition scores; quantifying fodder and feed offered to individual animals, evaluation of farmer formulated rations by “Ksheeraprabha” a farmer friendly feed formulation software in Malayalam, providing the mineral mixture developed as corrective measure for mineral imbalance. The intervention also facilitated in marketing of quality milk in glass bottles with ensured traceability.
