2233rd Annual convention of Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine (ISVM) and three day National Symposium on “New Dimensions in Veterinary Medicine: Technological Advances, One Health Concept and Animal Welfare Concerns” was inaugurated by Dr. Suresh S. Honnapagol, Animal Husbandry Commissioner, Government of India at College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) campus, Pookode. He has explained the current livestock status of the country and the increasing demand of Veterinarians in India. He has expounded the need of controlling zoonotic and transboundary diseases and has recommended the use of biotechnology, nanotechnology and molecular epidemiology for the in-depth study of various diseases. He concluded that animal health is as important as human health to achieve the goal of “One health”. Dr. B. Ashok IAS, Vice Chancellor KVASU delivered the Patron’s address and released the conference compendium. He has commented that Indian Veterinary profession has missed out on the millennial transition and has recommended that our 10 best veterinary colleges can be upgraded to cater to foreign graduates as our veterinary education is in par with many foreign universities. The function was presided over by Dr. D.S. Nouriyal, President Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine. Dr V Gnanaprakasam has given the keynote address on ‘revamping large animal veterinary medical practice’. Felicitations were offered by Dr. K. Devada (DAR, KVASU), Dr. Joseph Mathew (Registrar, KVASU), and Dr. T. P. Sethumadhavan (DE, KVASU). Dr. S L Ali, General Secretary ISVM has delivered the report on the functioning of ISVM 2014. The book entitled “Physical methods of examination and other simple techniques on clinical diagnosis in bovine practice” authored by Dr V Gnanaprakasam and sponsored by Virbac Animla Health india Pvt Ltd. was handed over to the university libraries by the Vice chancellor. Various ISVM awards were distributed during the function. The three day convention will deliberate on the current advancements in Veterinary Medicine. Over 500 delegates from all over India are attending the conference. The valedictory function of the conference will be held on 24.01.2015.
