25Government will implement novel schemes in the area of livestock and poultry production to strengthen entrepreneurship and food security in the State; says Hon'ble Chief Minister Government of Kerala Sri. Oommen Chandy. Chief Minister made this statement while inaugurating the Academic block of College of Avian Sciences and Management at Thumbermuzhi in Palakkad district on 19th February 2015. Chief minister announced new projects for the centre which will be included in the forthcoming budget. They include Poultry industrial Park, Hostels for students, Farm tourism project and skill development training centre for the tribals. Chief Minister also launched the Anaswara Quail Project of the University. Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University could establish College of Avian Sciences and Management, first of its kind in India within One year including infrastructure facilities. Hon'ble Minister for Agriculture and Animal Husbandry and Pro Chancellor of the University Sri. K.P.Mohanan presided over the function. Minister announced that KVASU will launch three Poultry Veterinary Hospitals in the North, Central and South regions of the State in association with KSPDC. Sri. N.Shamsudheen M.L.A inaugurated the Chick Management Centre Sri. Ramesh, CGM, NABARD launched the Mobile Poultry Unit . Special Officer Dr.A.Jalaludeen presented the report. As part of the inaugural programme an exhibition on various breeds of poultry and activities of KVASU were arranged. An awareness programme on Poultry production was held at the same venue for farmers and Entrepreneurs of the State. Vice Chancellor Dr.B.Ashok wecomed the delegates and Registrar Dr.Joseph Mathew expressed vote of thanks. District Collector Sri.K.Ramachandran, Director of Animal Husbandry Department Dr.Brahmanandan, University officials and elected representatives of local bodies are among the few dignitaries who offered felicitations during the inaugural session.
KVASU is offering three year BSc (Poultry Production and Business Management) course during this financial year from College of Avian sciences and Management, Thiruvazhamkunnu.College aims at strengthening poultry sector in the state including industry- research- farmer- entrepreneur interface. This centre will pave way for popularising poultry industry as one of the viable business ventures in the State.
