16 Animal Agriculture is moving from subsidiary to main occupation in the country. Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is well aware of this transition and has chalked out plans to train farmers in the latest technologies. Says Hon'ble Chancellor Shri. Justice P. Sathasivam during the convocation address of KVASU. Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the University in starting a seperate division focussing on entrepreneurship and knowledge dissemination. Governor reiterated the importance of education and reminded that education is a never ending process and the graduation merely marks your initiation in to lifelong learning. The first convocation of the Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University was held on 16th March, 2015 at the Kabani Auditorium, KVASU Headquarters, Pookode, Wayanad wherein the degrees were conferred on the students and University gold medals were awarded to the top rank holders of various programmes.Hon'ble Chancellor Shri. Justice P. Sathasivam conferred the degrees and awards. Vice Chancellor Dr.B.Ashok delivered the wecome address and Registrar Dr. Joseph Mathew expressed vote of thanks.During the occasion,Dr Amrita Patel, Former Chairperson of the National Dairy Development Board and Dr P. K. Warrier, Managing Trustee and Chief Physician, Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal were conferred honorary degrees of Doctor of Science by the Hon’ble Chancellor.
15th meeting of the Management Council of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University held on 22nd December 2014 at Headquarters, Pookode passed a resolution to confer honorary doctorate degrees to Dr.P.K.Warrier, Managing Trustee, Arya Vaidya Sala, Kottakkal and Dr.Amrita Patel. Former Chairman, National Dairy Development Board. Padmabhushan Dr.P.K.Warrier, a doyen among the Ayurveda fraternity today represents everything that is authentic and pristine in Ayurveda. He did a pioneering role in adding value to the traditional practices of Ayurveda by making significant contributions to the research and innovations and in taking this holistic science of health care to distant shores of the World. With the initiative of Dr.P.K.Warrier Kerala Veterinary ad Animal Sciences University has launched a course on Post graduate diploma in Ethno pharmacology under technology enabled mode with the joint collaboration from Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala and Ayurveda College. Dr.Warrier is recognized as a physician par excellence. Dr.Amrita Patel, former Chairman of National Dairy Development Board was responsible for implementing the unique National Dairy Programme namely Operation Flood aimed at rural development in the country. The programme had helped to promote, finance and deliver variety of supporting services to a National co-operative dairy structure which includes more than 15 million members from 1.5 lakh village Dairy co-operatives affiliated to 183 districts coming under 22 State co-operative federations. With the efforts of Late Dr. Verghese Kurien and Dr.Amrita Patel India could achieve largest milk producing country in the World. Dr.Patel has been conferred the Padma Bhushan and numerous other awards and honorary degrees including Dr.Norman Borlaug Award and Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar. Dr.Amrita Patel has been selected for honorary doctorate degree taking in to account Dr.Patel’s contribution in the Dairy Sector of the country.
The Hon’ble Chancellor awarded the gold medals and rank certificates to the first rank holders of the various degree programmes. They include Dr Bindu Lakshmanan (Ph.D), Dr Prashanth Kumar K .S (M.V.Sc.), Dr Remya R. Nair (B.V.Sc. and AH) and Swathi P. Anand (B.Tech.-Dairy Science and Technology).
160 students who have completed the course requirements and examinations of degree/ post graduate and doctoral programmes during 2014 were conferred with their degrees. Compared to other educational institutions, University has been able to disburse original degree certificates and consolidated mark lists of Graduate students within a month’s time after result notification, which has been followed in the previous years successfully.
