01 Indian Dairy Association (Kerala Chapter) in association with Association of Food Scientists and Technologists – India (Thrissur chapter) organized a National Seminar on Prospects of Fermentation in Dairy Industry on 22.4.2015 hosted by the College of Dairy Science and Technology (CDST). Recently importance of fermented milk products among consumers and the development of healthy and acceptable fermented products in the dairy industry is acquiring momentum in the country.,
Dr. G. Girish Varma, Faculty Dean, College of Dairy Science and Technology inaugurated the programme. Dr. Latha Sabikhi, Principal Scientist and Head, Dairy Technology Division, National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal (Haryana) presented the topic ‘Cheese technology with special reference to varieties used in Indian cuisines’. Dr. Ligimol James, Assistant Professor of CDST presented a paper on ‘Role of starter cultures in fermented products’ and Dr. A.K. Beena, Associate Professor of CDST on ‘Curd as a pro-biotic product’. Dr. Adrian Pollard, MD, Chr-Hansen India (Ltd), the sponsors of the programme presented on ‘Use of DVS Cultures and Enzymes in Cheese and Fermented milk’.
Dr. B.V.Venkateshiah, Former Dean, Dairy Science College, Bengaluru delivered the key note address on Fermented Milk products. Dr. Sicilamma George, Faculty Dean, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences addressed the delegates. Dr. P.I. Geevarghese, Chairman, IDA – Kerala Chapter presided over the function. Entrepreneurs, farmers, researchers, Govt. officials, technologists and students participated in the programme. The welcome speech was given by Jayadevan G.R, Assistant Professor welcomed the delegates and organizing Secretary, Shyam Suraj S.R., Assistant Professor expressed vote of thanks.
