22Dr. GEORGE T. OOMMEN, MVSc in Veterinary Public Health and Ph.D in Meat Science & Technology retired as Professor& Head of The Meat Technology Unit & Dept of Livestock Products Technology, CVAS, Mannuthy on 19th May2015 with 32 years of service as the Faculty of Veterinary & Animal Sciences from 11/1983 to till date and with 2 years of service as Veterinary Surgeon in the Animal Husbandry Department. He has served as the Principal Investigator of a project under NATP (ICAR) with an outlay Rs. 2.15 Crores & Co-PI of 3 major projects; 2 projects of DAE-BARC & BRNS and a NABARD- RIDF Project on Estt. of R&D Centre for Livestock Products at KVASU, Pookode. He has guided eight PG students as Major Advisor and 41 as Minor Advisor. He has 11 papers published in peer reviewed journals and 38 papers presented in International/ National seminars. He has authored 1 book, Co-authored 2 books, 3 Compendia and 1 Manual. For improvement of organoleptic quality of meat, he has fabricated and put into regular use an electrical stimulator in 1990. He has served as technical Member of Food & Agriculture Division 18 of Bureau of Indian Standards from 2011, Suchitwa Mission, Kerala for Establishment of Slaughterhouses and Effluent Treatment Plants and FSSAI, Food Safety Commissionerate, Kerala. He is the life Member of Association of Food Scientists & Technologists (India), Indian Meat Science Association and Association of Meat Scientists and Technologists. The teaching, non teaching, students and trainees of the Unit organized a farewell function on the same day.
