KVASU to collaborate with UN and UNICEF in sustainable development

             Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University will collaborate with United Nations academic impact and United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund UNICEF in the areas of technology for sustainable development and educational awareness programmes respectively. The United Nations Academic impact (UNAI) is a programme of United Nations department of public information for institutions of higher education granting degrees or their equivalent across the globe. In order to meet the sustainable development goals UNAI organised a series of programme called START (Skills & Technology Accelerating Rapid Transformation) with the help of International Universities and collaborators. UNAI in association with Amrita University organised an International Conference on 8th July2015 at United Nations, New York on sustainable development and launched an online portal to encourage further discussion and collaboration among University researchers worldwide on technology for global sustainable development. KVASU participated in the conference and decided to pursue further with UNAI-START project in the areas of sustainable development as envisaged in the millennium development goals of UN.Dr.T.P.Sethumadhavan, Director of Entrepreneurship of KVASU participated in the discussions for identifying broad areas of collaboration related to skills and technology for accelerating rapid transformation.
            In a separate meeting held between KVASU and UNICEF at New York on 9th July 2015, it has been decided to pursue further for collaborating with the educational awareness programme of KVASU  for school children, which includes Jyothis, Insight and Sumedha of Koothuparamba, Payyanur and Kaipamangalam Assembly constituencies respectively. UNICEF officials highly appreciated the educational awareness programme of KVASU and suggested to scale up the project in appropriate areas. KVASU submitted a proposal to UNICEF for educational awareness programme for tribal schools of Wayanad district as part of Wayanad 2030 programme of the University. Meeting with UN and UNICEF officials paved the way for identifying broad areas of collaboration like sustainable development, tribal school development, educational awareness and student entrepreneurship.
